Dallas electricity rates offered by retail energy providers (REP) are some of the most competitive in the country. Thanks to Texas Senate Bill (SB7), Dallas residents can choose from over a dozen competitive energy suppliers for their generation costs. Before SB7, the utility companies had a monopoly over the delivery and generation costs. During that time, if a customer was unhappy with the generation costs being charged by the utility company, there was nothing they could do to change it. Now with energy deregulation, also known as energy choice, Dallas residents can shop for a lower generation rate.

Oncor is a utility company that provides delivery services to both Dallas residential and commercial customers. This means Oncor is responsible for maintaining the lines and wires to deliver the electricity to the point of service. If you’re living in Dallas and experience a power outage or any disruption in service, Oncor will be responsible for fixing the issue.

The costs associated with delivering the power to your place of residence will show up on the electric bill as the delivery charge. This charge is a regulated charge and overseen by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). Since the delivery charge represents the regulated portion of the electric bill, there is nothing the customer can do to get this changed.
