Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) to Increase Default Rate 13%

Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) has announced it will increase the default rate by 13% for commercial customers starting June 1st. The current rate of $0.0662 per kWh is set to expire at the end of May and will be replaced with the new rate of $0.07541. This rate increase will be for both GS1 and GS3 rate classes. This will no doubt have a major impact on businesses already struggling from the pandemic. The increase in energy costs is expected to show up on energy bills customers receive in July.

Pennsylvania Power and Light Price to Compare

Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) is required by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to provide a default rate for supply services to customers that decide not to switch over to a competing energy supplier. Pennsylvania is among many states that have deregulated the electricity market allowing residents to switch over to a competing energy supplier to lower the supply rate on their energy bills.

The default rate is often referred to as the price to compare. Consumers can use the price to compare while shopping for energy plans. If an electric supplier is offering a supply rate that is lower than PPL’s price to compare rate then the consumer will save money by switching to the new energy plan.

Shop for an Electric Supplier and Avoid the Price Hike!

Commercial customers can avoid the spike in prices by shopping for an alternate electric supplier and locking in a fixed rate. Fixed rates will put a ceiling on the price and protect the customer during a rising market. Thanks to energy choice, there are over a dozen energy suppliers providing supply services in the state of Pennsylvania. The increase in the number of energy suppliers gives more options to consumers and helps put energy prices in check.
